How To Pick the Right Pair of Glasses

Request Appointment

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when picking out a new pair of glasses. There are many options available, and it can be a struggle to determine what eyewear shape works best for you and your lifestyle. Thankfully, the knowledgeable team at Eye Wellness is available to help you decide!

Our optical boutique strives to provide a wide variety of styles and brands to fit every taste, and our staff will provide support and options to help you find the perfect pair of specs for your prescription.

We know choosing your next pair of glasses can be intimidating, so we’ve put together a list of tips and tricks to help make your decision a little easier.

Tips & Tricks To Help You Find the Perfect Pair

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you find the right pair of glasses.

Consider Your Face Shape

At Eye Wellness, we firmly believe that everyone is different, beautiful, and can rock a wide variety of styles without adhering to hard and fast rules about face shapes and what they should or shouldn’t wear. Still, face shape is a good starting point if you’re feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of options in the eyewear showroom.

Generally, frames tend to look better when they contrast with the shape of your face, and are scaled to your face size. (But again, don’t stop yourself from trying on something you like because it isn’t considered the right style for your face shape!)

Here are a few different face shapes, and their recommended frame styles:

  • Oval: Wide or walnut-shaped frames, bold shapes, patterns, and colours,
  • Triangle: Details on the upper portion, lighter colours, lightweight.
  • Square: Narrow, broad, rounded frames.
  • Round: Rectangular frames, bold, angular lines, bottom of frames hits above the cheekbone.

Show Off Your Style

There are a lot of eyewear styles available in today’s market, and there’s always something on the shelf that will suit your tastes. Pick a few frames based on what you love to wear, and eliminate those that don’t work with the look you’re hoping to convey.

You should eventually be able to whittle your choices down to a few that really match your style. Remember that the staff in our optical boutique are always available to help you decide!

POP Your Best Features

What’s your favourite feature about your face? Is it your big, beautiful eyes? Your skin tone? Choose your best quality and find a frame to highlight it. Match your new glasses to your eye colour, or choose something to enhance your complexion.

Your eyes, skin, and hair play a part in your overall colouring, but did you know that everyone has cool or warm undertones in their complexion? Use those undertones to find a frame that complements your complexion.

  • Warm undertones: Try browns, greens, golds, coppers, oranges, corals, warm reds, turquoise.
  • Cool undertones: Try silvers, blue-grays, plum, pinks, and blues.

Find the Right Size

Frames that are too small can limit peripheral vision, and feel too tight. When trying on frames, ensure that they are not pinching your nose, rubbing, or leaving red marks. Additionally, too large frames can affect vision by sliding down the nose or slipping off your face.

Your optician can make adjustments around the ears to help ensure comfort, but frames that are much too large or too small will never be the perfect fit.

Eyeglasses That Match Your Lifestyle

When choosing your next pair of glasses, ensure that your chosen frames match your personality, hobbies, and lifestyle. It’s essential to consider your activities when making a selection.

If you participate in sports or are very active, you’ll want to look at sturdier eyewear. If you are outside for a large portion of the day, you may want to consider transition lenses.

Weight & Material Matters

The longevity and comfort of your new frames will depend significantly on the material.

In the past, frames were most commonly made of plastic, metal, or a combination of both. These days, a wider variety of materials are available, including eco-friendly options made from sustainable materials.

  • Metal frames: Metal frames can be longer-lasting, heavier, and often have adjustable nose pads.
  • Plastic frames: Plastic frames are often less expensive, lighter, and generally require less maintenance.
  • Eco-friendly frames: Eco-friendly frames are created with sustainability in mind, often crafted with biodegradable or renewable materials.

High-Quality Lenses

Sure, frames are fun, but let’s get to the real reason we need prescription glasses – improving your eyesight! Your lenses are the real workhorse of your new glasses, and at Eye Wellness, we guarantee high-quality lens craftsmanship.

We offer a variety of lens upgrades to help compliment your hobbies, daily activities, and enhance your vision, like anti-reflective and blue light coatings. Speak to one of our knowledgeable staff in the showroom about the right lenses for your lifestyle.
