What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam & Fitting
Your eyes are unique, and your contact lenses should be too. At Eye Wellness, we take a personalized, step-by-step approach to make sure your lenses not only match your prescription but also fit your eyes comfortably and safely.
The Exam
We begin by examining your eyes using different instruments and tests. This allows us to determine if contact lenses are a good option for you and to find the right prescription.
Keep in mind that your contact lens prescription is different from your glasses prescription. We also check that your eyes are healthy enough to wear lenses safely.
The Fitting
Next, we take detailed measurements of your eyes to understand their shape and size. This helps us choose the best lens type and size for your corneas. We’ll also discuss different lens styles so you can select the option that best suits your lifestyle and vision needs.
The Trial
You’ll go home with a trial pair of lenses in the prescription, size, and style we think will work best. After a trial period, we’ll follow up to see how they feel and perform. If they exceed your expectations, we’ll order more. If not, we’ll adjust the fit or try a different lens until you get the best results.
Scleral Lenses for Keratoconus & Hard-to-Fit Eyes
For patients with keratoconus or other irregular corneas, traditional lenses may not fit well or provide clear vision. That’s why we offer scleral lenses, which are larger, custom-designed lenses that vault over the cornea and rest gently on the white part of the eye.
Scleral lenses are designed to vault over the entire cornea, resting gently on the white part of the eye (the sclera). This creates a smooth, even surface for light to enter the eye, improving clarity and focus even in cases where the cornea is steep or misshapen.
One of the most important features of a scleral lens is the fluid reservoir that forms between the lens and the eye. This pocket of sterile saline stays in place throughout the day, providing constant hydration and cushioning.
